Focus & methodology

Methods that fit the question. Recruiting that fits the audience.

From traditional focus groups to online research, legal studies, usability work, and intercepts, NewStar adapts recruiting and field support to the way your study actually needs to run.

Our methodologies

Seven core research formats. One consistent standard.

Every project starts with the brief: who you need, what qualifies them, where they are located, how the session will run, and what could make the recruit difficult. From there, we build a screening and communication process around the study.

Focus group facilitation

We recruit for traditional conference-room groups, relaxed discussion environments, youth studies, caregiver research, professional audiences, and general consumer work. Screening and scheduling are tailored to the study, not a one-size-fits-all process.

Mock trial recruiting

We recruit carefully screened jury research participants for short exercises, full-day programs, and multi-day mock trial studies. Geographic, demographic, experiential, and case-specific criteria can all be incorporated into the screener.

Online focus groups & music tests

We support online research on Zoom, Microsoft Teams, QualBoard, and other platforms. Online recruiting expands geographic reach and can simplify logistics for multi-market, professional, or difficult-to-schedule audiences.

Off-site survey intercept research

Intercept research reaches people in the environments where decisions and experiences happen. We support projects at retail locations, healthcare settings, campuses, events, transportation hubs, and other approved field locations.

IDIs, small groups & in-home studies

For studies that require depth, discretion, or specialized participants, we recruit one-on-one interviews, small groups, and in-home sessions with clear participant communication and careful handling of sensitive topics.

Usability research

We recruit users to evaluate websites, apps, products, prototypes, and digital experiences. Participant criteria can be based on behaviors, technology usage, professional roles, purchasing patterns, or other study-specific requirements.

We recruit evaluators for financial services, automotive, retail, hospitality, convenience, and other customer-facing environments where real-world experiences need to be observed and assessed.
